During a cost-reduction engineering phase for a medical ventilator, we conceived of a new way to implement a very reliable yet simple and low-cost infrared touchframe.

Lower cost than the infrared technology previously used. Measurably better resolution. Uses a single 5V power supply (previously 5V & 12V). Substantially reduced power consumption (90% reduction). Significant reliability and redundancy improvements. Now shipping world-wide in thousands of Puritan-Bennett ventilators annually.
