Research Observatory Software

Teleology Corporation developed (in C) the original complete observatory guidance and control software program for this 1.2 Meter astronomical research telescope.

The Manzanita Observatory is located high in the Laguna Moutains east of San Diego, California. It is owned and operated by the Tierra Astronomical Institute, a private research group.

Our software provided all of the fundamental functions needed for controlling and operating a large observatory instrument of this calibre, including:

  • Solar to Sidereal time conversions.
  • Polar coordinate calculations.
  • Compensation for atmospheric refraction.
  • Automated and manual controls.
  • Astronomical object database.
We also re-engineered and adapted a faulty vendor stepper motor control product during system integration in order to produce a working telescope tracking system.
