The GDx-VCC Scanning Laser Polarimeter performs precise
measurements of the Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer of a patient's
eyes.
Our participation in the GDx-VCC project extended over a period
of more than four years, and we had the privilege of contributing
both to the original design and to an enhanced new product
design.
Here is a partial list of our activities in support of GDx
development:
Supported stepper motor control legacy firmware on an
8051-type microcontroller.
Developed custom stepper motor control firmware running
on the Motorola MCORE series of 32-bit microcontrollers.
Designed and implemented a manufacturing fixture used to
properly align polarizing optics; see more information
here.
Invented and implemented a dual-image bootloader that partitioned
controller memory into two separate areas, allowing completely
failsafe field firmware upgrades.
Architected and implemented a hybrid firmware/hardware laser
safety system for use in a new product.
Revised hardware schematics for other system components.
Produced supporting documentation for all development.
